Arlington, VA – September 8, 2009 – A new money making opportunity that claims to “Multi-level market the Internet” could be nothing more than a pyramid scheme warns Better Business Bureau. An investigation by BBB shows that iJango – a new self-described multi-level marketing company – is aggressively seeking representatives for a product that has no track record. Consumers are paying hundreds of dollars in upfront fees based on the claim that they can earn money by recruiting others to do the same – a red flag for pyramid schemes.

Coupons are a significant factor. The number of American adults using online coupons rose by 39% to 36 million between 2005 and 2008, according to a survey conducted by Simmons/Experian Research and Coupons, Inc.
According to the CEO of Coupons.com, in March of 2009, the company experienced a 192% increase in the value of coupons printed from its site when compared with the previous year. The total value of the coupons printed out in that month alone was $57 million.

On February 17, President Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act—an economic stimulus plan totaling $787 billion in federal spending and tax cuts.
The main goal of the stimulus package is to spur job creation—Congressional Budget Office estimates that employment could increase by as much as 3.6 million jobs by 2010—with the concept being that more jobs will provide additional assistance to struggling consumers and businesses. The Better Business Bureau provides mediation services to help consumers and businesses reach a mutually acceptable solution when complaints arise. The BBB acts as a neutral third party, listening to both sides of the story. Companies are ALWAYS made aware of the complaint and given an opportunity to respond BEFORE a complaint is closed and reported. Online complaint boards do not work that way.
